The Therapy Process

If your relationship is suffering from chronic conflict or a lack of trust we will utilize Emotionally Focused Therapy, a research-validated approach to couple therapy that effectively helps couples de-escalate conflict, create more emotional security and rebuild trust.

Many people feel uncomfortable when discussing sexual concerns, so we will work together in a respectful manner and at a pace that suits you. If you currently have a partner, I will recommend in most cases that you see me together; a strong relationship is a tremendous resource in sex therapy. And it helps you and your partner establish compatible outcome expectations. There may also be occasions when it’s more appropriate to see me individually.

Due to ample myth and misperception about healthy sexual functioning, education plays a key role. In addition to addressing this in sessions, I’ll recommend you read carefully selected resources to enhance your understanding of the issues. I’ll also likely give you suggestions for activities you will do in the privacy of your own home and which we will later discuss in sessions.

If you have questions about sex therapy and whether it’s appropriate for you, contact me and we’ll discuss your situation and how we might work together. In addition to 25 years of experience as a couple therapist, I’ve had extensive formal training in sex therapy and am a certified sex therapist (American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists).
